SYSTEM RESTORE

I thought it would be nice to have a System Restore Tutorial, with Screen Shots.

If you don't know where Systems Restore is, click on the 'start' button, then click on 'Programs', then go to each of the highlight programs, and you should see it in 'Systems Tools', Click on 'System Restore' and it will bring up the next Screen Shot. I'm using Windows XP Pro.

Make sure you read the instructions on the left side. You will see that there is already a tick next to 'Restore my computer to an earlier time'. Now click on the 'Next>' button, in the lower right hand corner, and it will bring you up to the next Screen Shot.

In this Screen Shot, you will see Wed 3rd, is bolder then the rest, and Sat 6th, is already selected. This is the date the System did a checkpoint on my computer. I can either click on the System Checkpoint in this date, or I can go to the 3rd, and see what is in there, or I can go back to an earlier month, by clicking on the arrow head on the left side of the month 'August'. Ok, I picked the 6th. Let's say, I had downloaded a program and it didn't work, and the restore point was done before I did the download. Now, I want to go back before I did the download, so I'll clicked on the 'Next>' button, and I'll see the system going back to that date and time before I did the download. I just let it do it's job, and when it's finished, it will have gone back before I downloaded the program.

Make sure you read the instructions at the top of the calendar.

It's is always best to do your own System Checkpoint, when you change anything, or download updates or programs.

The next screen shots will show you what it will look like when you create your own System Checkpoint. First go back up, and look at the 2ed Screen Shot, and where it says 'Create a Restore Point' put a tick in there, (A tick is when you click on the little circle and it puts a dot inside of it, instead of a check mark) Now after you put the tick in there, click on the 'Next>' button, and the next screen shot will show what will come up.

In this System Restore Point, I gave the description as 'Sample' you can name it what ever you want. You might want to name it what your going to do, like 'Download Screensaver' or what ever you download or update, or change. Then click on the 'Create' button

Read the instructions also.

In this Screen Shot, you'll see that the System made a Restore Point for me. It gives the description, date, and even the time. Now I can click on the 'Close' button, I'm all done, I just made a new System Checkpoint

The next screen shot will show you the results of my new System Checkpoint.

In this Screen Shot, you'll see on the right, there are two Systems Checkpoints, The one I made, and the one the System made, and notice the time that each where made. If I need to go back, I'll click on System Restore again, and put a tick next to The 'Restore my computer to an earlier time', and this is what it will look like.
