IrfanView

Another Tutorial, I'm trying out, IrfanView with Screen Shots.

I hope it might help just a little, to get you started. I still haven't ventured around very much in this fine program, and I know there is a lot more you can do with it, I just have to fine the time to do it. I use it all the time for Resizing, Cropping, and all my Screen Shots. I wouldn't be with out it, it's fast and easy to use once you know what to do. I'm sure you will feel the same as I do about IrfanView.

When you open IrfanView, it will come up as a black screen, don't let this scare you as it did me. You can change the background color, and I'll show you how to do that later. There are different ways to get to the image you want, but let me show you how I do it, then you can play around it later, OK?

Also, if anyone has other information they would like me to add to this, and maybe add a Screen Shot, just let me Know.

When you bring up IrfanView, this Screen Shot will shows you where I go to bring up my images....'File> Thumbnails'

This next screen shot shows the thumbnails, and if the Directory Tree isn't showing on the left side, go to View> and click on 'Directory tree'. You'll see I have three folders on top. I had just put them there by clicking on the 'Most recently used directories' I didn't know that's what it was for. What a different it made, now I don't have to click on the 'C' drive, and all that stuff to get to 'My Pictures' they'er right there at the top, so you see, I still have a lot to learn about what's in IrfanView.

Now double click on one of the thumbnails (Images) you want to add, so you can work on it.

If you need to resize your image, go to Image> and click on 'Resize/Resample'

When you want to add a picture here is SAF, it can be no larger then 500 (Pixels) in Width, and 75 KB in File Size. In here, all I do is type in 500, in the Width box, and I don't worry about the Height, it will change automatically, as long as you have the box next to 'Preserve aspect ratio' checked, as in the image. This will keep the picture from distorting when you want to change the size of it.

Where to change the File Size will be coming up.

Now go to File and click on 'Save as'

Here, it shows where the picture is being saved, 'Save in', the name you want to give the image, 'File name', and the type of file 'Save as type'. Check the 'Show option dialog box at the bottom, and you'll now see on the right, another menu, this is where you adjust the file size. At the top, where it says 'Save quality', slide the slider to 70%, or 75%. I use 70%, this should take care of most images. This is a good size to post your pictures in SAF.

Here is where you go to change the color of the background in IrfanView. I had changed it to another color, but decided to go back to black, I guess I got use to it. Go to the top, click on 'Options'> 'Properties'> and then click on the 'Viewing' tab. It will bring up this Screen Shot. Now click on the 'Choose' button, and it will bring up some colors you can choose from.
